The French openings are categorized by the order given to the Fleet in Brest, as follows:
- Manche Openings, aka the English Attack (F Bre-ENG)
- Atlantic Openings (F Bre-MAO)
- Norman Openings (F Bre-Pic)
- Biscay Openings (F Bre-Gas)
